Alex with the large granite ball that floats on a film of water that allows rotation. A very unusual object that he spun to a great speed. The surface engravings were very worn but the star designating Ashland was still evident - denoting the "center of the universe", as the locals saw themselves.

Watching CSX and Amtrak trains thundering through the center of Ashland, Virginia; Alex on the left and his Dad on the right observing a CSX freight. Ashland is a city where street level railroading still exists, attracting train-watchers from far and wide.
