Aunt Gertrude and her husband vacationing on the "Ostsee". The photo on the right is after German mobilization when he became an officer in the Army. Herr Schulze was a dentist in civilian life and was killed in Romania.
Shortly after the war (in 1947) Mother visited her family in Hamburg. From left to right is Aunt Emma, Mother, Aunt Gretel and Uncle Martin. A larger portrait of Uncle in his transportation uniform is on the right. Mother flew on an SAS flight that showed its wartime background by still having fittings for paratroopers in the airplane.
On the left is Grandmother Anna Jenning with daughter (Aunt) Gretel. The dinner on the right shows Uncle Hans and Aunt Gretel Lott with Uncle Siegfried (Aunt Emma's husband) at the end of the table.
On the occasion of Aunt Gertrude's visit in July 1969 we toured the beautiful Sterling Forest gardens with its many statues and picturesque views. It was situated in the Tuxedo, New York area, subsequently became a ski resort and has long ceased operation.
This is a family portrait of the Zamjohn family who had a long acquaintance with our family. On the left is Minnie Zamjohn whose arthritis is already showing on her fingers. Next is a young German exchange student whose name was Udo (who was staying with friends of Lydia in the Bronx and whose last name is lost to memory), Lydia (Mother's close friend), Mr. Zamjohn who was the proprietor of a shoe store on Albany Street. His brother, Herman, is not in the photo. The two elderly people on the right are Mr. Zamjohn's step-sister Gussie Lohman and her husband Otto Lohman who lived on nearby Emmet Street. The year of the photo is 1950.
